Smashbox Cosmetics: Studio Skin 15-hr wear Hydrating Foundation Review

This oil-free, hydrating foundation is very useful to have in your kit. Especially for dry, mature skin due to the soothing emollients. I applied the foundation with no primer and left it on for 18 hours (oily/combo skin here) and it set almost immediately. Studio Skin left a satin-like finish making it suitable for those who want that ‘no-makeup’ makeup look. No pilling, separating around the nose, and no oiliness. I didn't use a powder at all, it doesn’t even budge if you live in heat or humidity. I noticed that it locks in place once set, which prevented any makeup mishap caused by sweating and/or water. The texture is so lightweight, it's similar to a second skin because you can't feel it.

As with all Smashbox products, they’re tested in the studio, wth professional lighting and cameras. We can all agree that’s another reason MUA’s use smashbox in these types of environments; artists have many looks to agree on with the photographer and creative director’s. As we’re shooting, we want to make sure the makeup is intact, lasts, and is versatile with whatever project we are working on.

It’s crucial to ensure that all of your products have a similar base and consistency. For example, a silicone primer probably won’t do well with a water-based foundation. Something to think about.

Studio Skin feels refreshing and brings radiance to your complexion. One of Smashbox's tips is to warm the product between finger tips for extra sheer coverage without losing any pigment of the product. It's a satin-matte finish with medium to full coverage (buildable). Their foundation has 'light diffusing spheres' to smooth/blur imperfections. The foundation is exercise resistant, sweat resistant, and transfer-proof (locking in place). Smashbox's silky foundation has a wide range of shades suitable for any shade and undertone.

The foundation is a bit sticky at first so you have to be quick with application unless you’re using a setting spray. Urban Decay’s B6 Vitamin-Infused Spray is recommended if you need a quick boost. I wear makeup a good amount of the time, i’d say 3-4 days of the week so this product can last me up to two months depending on my routine and how my skin is doing. I’d highly recommend for the working professional who has 5 minutes in the morning to get ready and needs to look presentable. This foundation has got you covered. If you want to go the extra mile or are seriously hungover from the night before, use TooFaced Hangover Primer. It brightens up your appearance making dark spots and circles less noticeable and keeps makeup in place.

Now, if you want to go the extra mile and need to makeup sure your makeup absolutely sticks on in extreme sweat or water, use Ben Nye’s Final Seal Setting Spray… and make sure you fully wash your makeup off at the end of the day. As this setting spray literally locks your makeup in place. Good luck trying to get it off at the end of the day (use circular motions).
