Maestro Technique Lecture: Bronzing, Contouring and Highlighting

“Wake Up, Boss Up, Hustle, Repeat”

Bronzing

The main goal of bronzing is to attain that sun-kissed glow, usually with warm tones. I find that using bronzer is best by itself for a natural look or soft glam unless you’re doing a photoshoot, etc. For better precision applying, it’s best to press the product into the skin instead of sweeping, which ultimately swipes makeup around… I suggest starting on the neck and décolletage; having a bronzed face and whiter neck will look funny so make sure to get all those visible areas, even the ears.

Highlighting

Key: adding shimmer/shine to high points of the face for a full dimensional look; where the light hits first on your face. Highlighting is essentially lifting the area(s), adds glow for a flawless or even wet look. Using baby pinks and nudes will help you to appear more youthful however keep in mind, it doesn’t cater to excessively textured/acne prone skin. Adding highlight/shine to those areas will just accentuate your problem areas/texture/acne.

For an all over body glow, use Fenty Beautys Body Lava (trophy wife) is my favorite.

Contouring

Referring to my Maestro Lecture 1.5—the aim is to balance the narrow forehead and wide jaw; using the width difference between the two features while emphasizing the cheekbones to create a lifted look.

Concentrating contouring to the jawline, particularly the corners and below the ears will help balance the smaller forehead of this face shape. Applying contour color under cheekbones will help lift the cheeks and take focus off the wide jawline. Highlighting the temples and forehead will create the illusion of width, brining it in balance with the jawline. Highlighting the chin and nose help draw the eye toward the center of the face.
