RCMA Foundation Palette by Vincent Kehoe Review

Every artist knows this is an absolute must in their kit. Especially if you’re getting into Television, Film, and Photography. In cases, where you’re using advanced technology and/or high budget projects, you’ll find yourself distinguishing what works for 4K and 10K Television.

The pressure can be high working with multiple professionals; asking for various altercations, retouches, touch-ups, the ability to change the makeup look a few times at least. Developed by renown artist Vincent J.R. Kehoe, president and director of the Research Council of Makeup Artists. Vincent studied the skin of many actors/actresses and came up with a wide range of colors to suit every ethnicity.

RCMA is vegan, and irritant-free (sensitive skin). They have two foundation palettes made by Vincent Kehoe: VK #10 & VK #11. The high percentage of pigmentation makes the palette last longer than most foundations because of how little product you need to use. The foundation is an easy spreading, whipped cremé base making it feel weightless on the skin. RCMA doesn’t include perfumes, mineral oil, or lanolin in their products. These inactive ingredients have a higher chance at irritating the skin, especially the epidermis. Unfortunately, this makes way for break outs, skin flare-ups, etc. It’s always best to do a sample on your skin when first trying a new foundation.

However, I find this palette especially useful, when I’m concealing my clients under eyes. There’s only 3 layers of skin, making it a highly fragile and sensitive area. The packaging on the other hand is built for easy carrying, I could take it with me anywhere. It comes with a built-in mirror and slot for brushes. There’s a total of 18 colors: Shinto 1 - Shinto 8, Olive 1 - Olive 4, Porcelain, Ivory, Gena Beige, Tantone, S1/S2. There’s many shades, making it versatile with concealing, highlighting, and contouring. Their palettes have a smooth and light finish that’s slip proof… Now if you want your makeup to be indestructible, set your makeup with Ben Nyes Final Seal Matte Spray.

As a southern gal, I have to make sure the products i’m using are able to last in the sun, and sometimes unbearable humidity. Vincents’ palettes are in my daily routine when it comes to the base of my application. Personally, I find it best when the product is taken out with a spatula onto my mixing tray, as I find it more sanitary and easier to control the product. I recommend this for the smaller palettes, too. If you go in with your foundation brush each time, you’ll be mixing other shades (unintentionally) and wasting most of the product. This foundation is highly pigmented and to be used with care.

I have found that these palette work for 4K and 10K HD TV sets. Just a tip, the base works well if you’re using (clean) finger tips to apply the product, since your body heat helps warm up the product. What you’re doing is making it easier to control application and consistency. You may also warm the product on the back of your hand and add some moisturizer or RCMA foundation thinner to make the product sheer while adding more hydration to the skin. I hardly have to use the thinner unless requested. For mature clients, I highly recommend adding this product to the back of your hand, then mixing it with your favorite facial moisturizer. Not only will this make you appear refreshed, but keeps you hydrated allowing your complexion to have a nice glow.

I find their palettes unparalleled to any foundation i’ve ever used. When working on set or photoshoots, I hardly have to retouch and this makes my life so much easier! I don’t have to worry about pilling, breakage, lines, etc. The consistency is flawless, looking so much like skin that you would truly be fooled. Now, without the powder it sets into a satin-matte finish. As stated earlier, it’s hydrating and perfect for all skin types. Obviously, you know what works for your skin. If you have oily skin, use a mattifying primer or the benefit porefessional primer for superior, long lasting results. Preparation matters as well as how you take care of your skin.

Now, which palette is for me? How do I distinguish which shades go with what? Get yourself acquainted with the color wheel, it’ll be your best friend. The VK #10 palette has yellow and warm shades. This means, there’s yellow and red undertones. Yellow works as an all over complexion brightener. I find this palette more suited for deeper skin tones, as the undertones are seamless. the one shown in the image is the VK #11 palette, which is what I use and find myself reaching for quite often.

More clients with more serious cases, the foundation covers up severe hyper pigmentation while still feeling very lightweight. Among others, it’ superior for bad adult cystic acne, vibrant scars, combination skin type with weather change and texture. If anything, you should take away that you can mix together the perfect shades and undertones effortlessly.
